[AUDIOBOOK] Andy Weir: Der Marsianer

Ein Buch wird verfilmt, es geht um ein Thema, das mich fasziniert, und ich bekomme es so spät mit, dass ich es nur noch als Audiobook schaffe...

Der Marsianer spielt - wenig überraschend - fast ausschließlich auf dem Mars. Irgendwann in naher Zukunft hat die NASA ein paar Menschen auf den Mars geschickt, und auch in dieser Mission sollen einige Experimente durchgeführt werden, um vielleicht später mal den Planeten besiedeln zu können. Nur leider läuft bereits am SOL 6 (Marstage haben nicht die selbe Länge wie Erdentage, und werden daher als SOL bezeichnet) einiges schief, die Crew muss aufgrund eines Sturms den Mars verlassen, nur Mark Watney wird - aufgrund von falschen Daten - für tot gehalten, und bleibt daher auf dem Mars zurück. Aus tiefer Bewusstlosigkeit erwacht, sieht sich Watney ohne Kommunikationsmöglichkeit, mit wenig Nahrung und wenig Wasser konfrontiert. Was tun? Gott sei dank ist Watney nicht einfach irgendwer, sondern Botaniker und Ingenieur der Mission. Damit ist er sowas wie ein neuer MacGuyver, nur eben auf dem Mars, und mit deutlich weniger Möglichkeiten.

Die Geschichte ist der Oberhammer! Ich hätte am liebsten nicht mehr aufgehört zu hören, die Stimme von Richard Barenberg ist sehr angenehm, das Hauptproblem diesbezüglich ist eigentlich, dass nicht Simon Jäger das Buch liest (nachdem Matt Damon die Hauptrolle im Film spielt hatte ich eigentlich dessen Stimme erwartet), aber eigentlich tut das nix zur Sache. Die Geschichte ist toll erzählt, Watney ist ein absolut sympatischer Charakter, er ist echt gut in allem was er so anpackt, und wenn er mal Fehler macht, dann ist er niemals verzweifelt, sondern findet immer eine Lösung.

Für mich bedeutet das 10 von 10 möglichen Punkten, und eigentlich schade, dass eine Fortsetzung eher unwahrscheinlich ist.

Ich beschäftige mich jetzt wieder mit Narr (Sina und Wagner 2), da hat mir Audible (also, nicht die persönlich, sondern deren Strategie zur Dateiaufteilung) einen Strich durch die Rechnung gemacht, aber nach erneutem Download in mehreren Teilen, hoffe ich, dass ich morgen in Ruhe weiterhören kann!

[AUDIOBOOK] Brandon Sanderson: The Final Empire [Mistborn 1]

A strange - probably postapocalyptic - world, where ash is constantly falling from the sky. Some even stranger characters (Kelsier, the Lord Ruler, Vin...) and mists, everywhere mists (but not anytime, because they only come out at night). Some strange abilities (pulling and pushing against metals)... well, these are the ingredients to one of the most boring audiobooks I ever heard. I really like Sandersons style and everything, I just cannot cope with all this strange stuff. It was a little to far fetched for me, too slow and well, too boring.
It took me ages listening to the book, I had to go back now and then because I didn't listen properly and missed parts... I wont award any points, not really because it was THAT bad, but because it has been already several weeks since I finished it, and I cannot even properly remember it (it was by no means so bad as the last four things).

So, next book I heard, and have already finished is "Der Marsianer" read by Richard Barenberg, written by Andy Weir.

Peter V. Brett: The Desert Spear

The second part of the Demon Cycle follows in the first part Jardir (who already played a minor role in "The Warded Man"). We learn how he learned to fight, how he finished off his first demon, how he fell in love, how he became the leader of the desert folk. Even Arlens role is shortly mentioned.

The second half of the novel tells about Jardirs way up north (in order to join forces against the corelings), but tells also about the fate of Arlen, Leesha and Rojer. Another minor character - Renna - also becomes a bigger part of this story!

The story goes on in exactly the same way as the first, it is very thrilling and some parts made me stay up very long. I love the characters - I even became accustomed to Jardir, whom I didn't like at all in book 1. I award 10 out of 10 and look forward to reading the third part "The Daylight War".

But first things first: The third part of Ms. Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children has arrived on my kindle, and I am not at 33%.
